Bandarach Council of Druids

       The Council

“Philosophers … and men learned in religious affairs are unusually honoured among them and are called by them Druids.  They further make use of seers, thinking them worthy of high praise.”

Diodorus Siculus, Library of History V, 31, 2-3:  quoted in The World of the Druids by Dr. Miranda Green (1997)

The Bandarach Council of Druids is an order of Celtic Druids serving the Celtic community.  We provide counseling and education, and preside over religious services. We do not worship Satan, install or remove hexes, sacrifice people or animals, or summon up demons.  We are priests and priestesses of the old Celtic gods and goddesses - and yes, that makes us pagans.

The Council was founded in 1980 as a loosely organized group of solitary druids in Europe.  The Council remains very informal, and has never met, face to face, as a body.  Previously, all discussions were conducted by mail, and more recently by email or chat.

Previously the Council consisted of nine druids, and there were three offices held.  Membership on the council is for life, unless an incumbent decides to step down or is removed by the council.  The Chief Druid, Jack Simpson, was elected by the founding druids.  The Chief Druid administers the Council and serves as the head of the College.  The positions of Chief Bard, who advises the Council in bardic matters, and Chief Seer,  who advises the council on matters of divination and ritual, are currently vacant.  The council currently has several openings.  If you are interested in a position, please contact the chief druid.  In 2006 membership in the council was opened and the nine druid limit was abolished.

Due to the rising costs of postage and for hosting the website - we will be charging for certificates of ordination (effective July 15, 2006) and will be charging a $25 fee for each course starting September 1, 2006.  Students already enrolled will be exempt from course fees.

Druids of all orders are welcome to join us.  If you are interested in joining the Council, please forward your resume to the Chief Druid.  Membership on the council involves mentoring students, evaluating student papers, regular attendance at quarterly council meetings (online), other duties as required.
